The project

The team were briefed to transform a former bank into a gastro style pub, while remaining relevant to the rich history of the building and so, is named after an upstanding member of Edinburgh’s local community, Duncan McLaren. The design was required to be able to cater for dining options from early until late, accommodate for families and serve exquisite drinks in a private function room. Following a six month extension, the fit out took just 10 weeks to create a buzzing destination venue!

The interior

The design intent for the venue was to create a social hub that at the same time felt homely and comfortable. Whether it’s for a catch up with friends over lunch or evening drinks after work, it was essential that the interior could accommodate to all these needs. Set over three floors, named The Bar, The Parlour & Tellers Room and The Loft, the building offers various dining and seating options, each with their own personality. The Bar situated on the ground floor offers a family friendly experience with lounge chairs as well as, bar stools that surround the centred focal bar. The Parlour & Tellers Room on the second floor offer a premium feel dining space with nods to the bank’s history through ceiling features and traditional artwork. The Loft on the top floor presents a cosy getaway from the lively ground floor Bar with plush seating, ambient lighting and a unique way to order drinks. McLaren’s on the corner has something for everyone!
